Fully-Rugged All-in-One Mobile Computer Now Shipping
Panasonic’s latest Toughbook 20 for mobile workers offers the flexibility of a tablet but includes a detachable keyboard with handle. For users who need a tablet but want a comfortable keyboard this is the solution.
The Toughbook CF-20 handle makes it easy to carry on the job. At only 3.9 lbs, it has a sunlight readable display and can be used with gloves. It can be ordered with 4G LTE that supports multiple cell carriers. The Panasonic rotating hand strap is a recommended accessory for use in tablet mode. We found the Boston Leather shoulder strap easily attaches to the tablet and can be used to carry the emissive backlit keyboard too.
There is also a rugged dock available designed for public-safety and utility vehicles. The Toughbook 20 ships with Windows 10 Pro installed but can support Windows 7 or 8 for older CAD systems.
One of the new mobile radio accessories that got our attention at IWCE this year was a magnetic palm microphone holder. It replaces the standard clip used by Motorola, Vertex Standard, Harris, Kenwood, Icom, and others. The powerful magnet pulls the palm microphone toward the base and supports scan, DPL, tone coded squelch, etc.

Police, fire, and ems drivers will keep their eyes on the road responding to emergencies. All fleet owners will benefit from decreased driver distraction and improved safety. The magnetic mic holder is a nice addition for the Astron integrated base station power supplies too.
GPS device technology has improved significantly since our Magnum AVL fleet management products were introduced in 2010. Cellular tower infrastructure changes require the replacement of some older trackers this year. We feel now is a good time to upgrade our product offering with new software features, faster updates, and the latest state-of-the-art hardware.
All of our new GPS devices have a backup battery that provides continuous tracking for almost an hour if power is lost. It will also show disconnect and reconnect alerts along with location data while unplugged. The new units also provide alerts for hard braking, acceleration, and direction changes.
Our new units update every 60 seconds plus every direction change providing significantly more data and improved accuracy. Alerts tied to exceeding posted speed of the road are now standard. Our new trackers use the Verizon Wireless network exclusively. Another improvement is a lifetime warranty on the tracker (except the backup battery) as long as the unit’s service plan is current.
Our new hardware is compatible with future driver log requirements, plug-in ECM cables, and other planned software enhancements.
Choice of AVL Fleet and Asset Trackers
We will continue to offer a choice of trackers depending on your requirements. Our 700-3W is wired to 12V DC, ground, and ignition. The wiring harness is compatible with 90% of our existing trackers for easy replacement. It has internal antennas, PTO sensor inputs, and the capability for future enhancements.
Our new 195-PNP plugs into the OBD-II port under the steering wheel of most cars, vans, and pickup trucks. It requires no installation and can be moved easily. For permanent installations an optional Y cable is available that hides the unit in the dashboard and provides an open OBD-II port for service.
For special applications we have GPS devices that track bobcats, pavers, trailers, and other equipment with a 12V DC power source. These units track less frequently - 10 or 30 minute updates when moving or daily when stationary. Battery backup will alert and track if stolen. We also have battery powered trackers that update every 12 hours for assets without a power source.
Major User Interface Upgrade With Advanced Features
The Amazon Cloud based user interface has been upgraded to provide advanced features and more alerts. All desktop functions can now be done from your smartphone. We continue to use Google Maps with satellite, traffic, and street views.
Maps are easy to customize with landmarks, geofences, and custom icons. Our software generates 20+ management reports for vehicles, groups, or your entire fleet. State mileage reports for IFTA class vehicles are supported.
Our data is stored in the cloud for six months for easy access. All reports can be automatically generated and emailed to multiple recipients. You can print reports, download to a spreadsheet, or save to a .pdf file.
New Lower Magnum AVL Service Plan Pricing
Our 1 minute update service plan is priced at $19.95 per month per vehicle. This is almost half the price of our competitors and we do not require a long term contract. We also offer a seasonal suspend plan to help with cash flow when not working.
Our lower cost 10 and 30 minute update service plans are available for our 460-EQ asset and 360-TT trailer trackers. Accountabilty of bobcats, pavers, and other job site equipment is easy when they are on the same map as your vehicles. For mobile assets without a power our 660-BAT battery-operated tracker will update every 12 hours.
The new enhanced hardware is not compatible with our existing legacy software. Magnum AVL customers and competitive users with a current contract qualify for FREE or discounted hardware pricing. Most customers will get faster updates at a reduced monthly fee by upgrading their devices.

The new Motorola XPR 3300e and XPR 3500e MOTOTRBO DMR radios can be ordered with a UL certification for use in hazardous environments.
The XPR 3000e series is the lowest cost UL-TIA4950 intrinsically-safe DMR digital radio by Motorola. They support Div 1, Class I, Groups C, D; Class II, Groups E, F, G, Class III; Div 2, Class I Groups A, B, C, D.
A certified radio will include a white UL label and TIA4950 PMNN4490 IMPRES battery. The 2900 mAh Li-ion battery is rated IP68 and uses a new low voltage design rated for up to 29 hours of normal use.
Answer These 5 Questions to Select the Correct Headset
Selecting the correct COMTAC tactical headset for your police SWAT team or military unit can be confusing. There are hundreds of choices and it can take a long time to research them. In order to make the right decision faster 3M Peltor developed a list of questions to guide you to the correct model.
Question 1: Cover Your Ears or Select Hybrid that Uses Earplugs?
Tactical electronic headsets that provide situational awareness have small microphones mounted on the earcups that instantly block harmful noise. The COMTAC III has the traditional earcups but now 3M offers the COMTAC IV with earplugs that provide additional comfort in hot environments. Both are designed to fit under a ballistic helmet.
Question 2: Band Style – How Will You Wear it?
The COMTAC III is available in three different styles. The most popular is the headband, over-the-head style. Headband style is foldable when not in use and has been preferred by most military and law enforcement teams.
If you prefer to wear your headset behind-the-head, 3M provides a neckband version. *Neckband is only available with COMTAC III.
3M recently introduced a third configuration – COMTAC III ARC. Designed for the Ops-Core FAST Helmet, the mounting mechanism clips to the Accessory Rail Connector.
Question 3: Radio Communications? More than One?
Depending on your mission and the need for interoperability, COMTAC headsets can connect to one or two different 2-way radios. Single COMM terminates in a NATO wired U/174 quick-disconnect plug designed for the appropriate radio adapter needed. One two-way radio is supported.
If your agency or mission requires interoperability with teams using different two-way radios, a Dual COMM headset will allow you to connect two different radios to your headset. Each COMTAC headset earcup will have a short cord with NATO wired U/174 plugs. Two adapters are required and you can talk on either or both radios using either PTT button.
A Dual COMM with split audio is also available for special military applications using a dual PTT adapter.
Question 4: Choose Available Color?
Most COMTAC III headsets are available in four different colors. The last two letters of the model number indicate the headset color.
SV indicates black and is the only difference between a COMTAC and a SWAT-TAC.
CY indicates coyote brown, GN is O.D. or olive drab green, and FG is a lighter foliage green. Foliage green is not available with COMTAC IV.
Depending on the model, some colors are special order.
Question 5: What Radio or Intercom Are You Connecting?
To choose the correct adapter you need to know the radio manufacturer (Motorola, Kenwood, Harris) and the specific model ( APX 6000, XTS 5000, etc).
COMTAC headsets are only compatible with NATO wired adapters. The specific model number should have “-02” end the end (i.e. FL5063-02). It is not possible to modify the adapter if it is wrong.

The State of Delaware Government Support Services, Office of Management and Budget has published an award notice to Magnum Electronics for a statewide contract renewable up to five years. Contract # GSS15735A-VEH_UPFIT was a multiple source award after competitive sealed proposals were evaluated and best and final offers were submitted.
Delaware State Police specified Chevrolet Tahoe upfit packages for K9, marked, and unmarked patrol vehicles. The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) included various small to medium sized truck configurations. Installation requirements include emergency lighting, video equipment, wireless 4G mobile routers, automatic vehicle location, consoles, and laptop mounts.
