We frequently receive support requests from Motorola wireless speaker-mic users to change the language from French back to English. This is caused by accidently turning on the WRSM and holding the PTT button at the same time.
The mics affected are the RLN6554 and RLN6544 for APX series radios, RLN6562 for MOTOTRBO XPR/SL series DMR radios, and the RLN6551 long range wireless mic for vehicle applications.
Motorola’s DTR700 900 MHz license-free radio has another firmware update available that allows users to receive new features at no charge. The Phase 2 release can be downloaded and includes new firmware, a new updater tool, and new programming software.
DTR700 radios use 902-928 MHz ISM spread spectrum and provide digital features. They are designed for on-site communications and perform well in buildings.
Group, individual, and call alert is standard. The DTR700 has a color display, radio ID, IP54 rating, and up to 16 hour battery life on a single charge. A two year warranty from Motorola is included.
1. Text Message – radio able to receive text messages and send text messages to other radios with pre-programmed text messages.
2. Remote Monitor (DTR700 & DTR720 only) – radio configured as Manager Mode is able to remotely monitor and listen to the environment of the other radio for 30 seconds provided the target radio is in the range.
3. Remote Disable (DTR700 & DTR720 only) – radio configured as Manager Mode is able to remotely enable or disable other radio provided the target radio is in the range.
4. Call Alert – radio able to pre-alert a specific radio in range to call back.
5. Rental Timer (DTR600 & DTR720 only) – radio rental company able to set rental period to radios and radio will be disabled when rental period expired.
6. Ringer Tone and Volume – radio able to set specific Ringer Tone and configure the loudness of the Ringer Tone that sound while receiving text message or call alert.
7. Over-The-Air Contact Cloning – radio able to add or delete contacts to or from another radio wirelessly without connecting the radios by cable.

Below is an updated training video from Motorola Solutions for firefighters using APX series 2-way radios and remote speaker-microphones. The original video “Say It Loud and Clear” was developed with help from the IAFC.
The new version includes the XE500 extreme temperature remote speaker-mics designed for firefighters in addition to the standard RSM’s with Windporting.
SL300, SL3500e, and SL7550e MOTOTRBO radios need a battery-powered remote speaker-microphone not available from Motorola Solutions until now. The new IP67 RM250 is Motorola’s first rechargeable wired RSM. It has a Kevlar reinforced coiled cord, ultra-thin head with swivel clip, 3.5mm audio jack, and Micro USB charging port. Battery life is up to 22 hours after a 2 hour charge. The PMLN7560 earpiece with acoustic tube can be used for discreet communications and surveillance.
The RM250 is now compatible with the WAVE PTT TLK 100 LTE network radio and the SLN 1000 CBRS device. The “B” version (PMLN7560B) that started shipping in November is required.

The new Motorola DTR700 digital radio requires a firmware update and customer programming software.
This new version provides the features and capabilities below:
1. Scan – radio stay on a channel is able to scan for other Public groups channel and Private groups which has the same hopset/profile ID.
2. Group Caller ID – radio receiving screens will display the Caller ID/Name for group calls.
3. Fixed issue with long channel name for home channel.

CPS is a free Motorola download for the DTR series radios. Motorola also announced a new stubby antenna (PMAF4025) available now.
Motorola Solutions announced the cancellation of several legacy Vertex Standard analog-only models this month. The VX-264, VX-451, VX-454, VX-459, VX-2100, and VX-2200 can no longer be ordered.
The popular analog VX-261, MOTOTRBO digital capable EVX-261, and EVX-S24, are not affected by this notice. Motorola still offers analog-only choices for most of the cancelled models as shown below.
Our remaining stock of VHF VX-264 and UHF VX-264 radios are marked down and a good deal for analog users needing a display with 128 channel capability. Motorola will continue to provide warranty support, depot repairs, and accessories.
Power Products Endura EC12M rapid charger will charge up to twelve batteries while on or off the radios. There are LED’s that provide charging status for all 12 pockets. The charger with power supply weighs only 5.5 lbs and supports all battery types including Li-ion, LiPo, NiMH, and NiCd chemistries. The TWC12M-PS external (100V-240V) AC power supply and cord is included.
The charger includes six dual replaceable pods in a small footprint measuring only 20 x 6 inches. Advanced charging technology prevents overcharging and provides automatic recharging when radio remains powered on.
The charger can be used in a vehicle too. An optional TWC6M-HW 12-24V DC hardwire kit is available along with a TWC12M-MB mounting bracket, and TWC12M-TD tie-down strap kit.
The EC12M uses the same pod as the Endura EC2M dual slot charger. The pods can be changed easily when you change radios by removing a single screw. Each pod will charge two batteries for a specific radio type but don’t have to be the same chemistry.
The EC2M can be used with the optional TWC6M-HW DC hardwire kit or the TWC6M-VPA 12-24V DC vehicle power adapter. There is also an optional EC2M-MB vehicle mounting bracket.

While attending an IACP Conference a couple years ago, we found CTech Manufacturing a supplier of aluminum cabinets for the public-safety market. We were looking for a tactical storage cabinet that was lighter with better mounting options for our SUV upfits.

Remote speaker-microphones cables for APX P25 and XPR MOTOTRBO DMR series radios could experience jacket failures when stressed. A manufacturing change in jacket material caused the problem.
When the cord is stressed the cable could tear or fray and expose the internal wiring. As a result, RSM’s that show failures will be replaced for up to 24 months after purchase.
The cord failure is shown in the image. The failure typically occurs at the RSM head or radio connector end or both, but can also occur in cable middle section.
Radio users who prefer to route the mic cord behind their back and stress the cable are more likely to experience the problem. Motorola recommends to dress the coil section so it
does not get caught on uniform accessories for optimal RSM service life.
Motorola is upgrading the cable jacket material in the near future. RSM’s with the new cable will include an “L” in the model suffix when shipped.

The Motorola wireless remote speaker-mic (WRSM) is a popular accessory for APX, XTL, and XPR series hand-held and vehicle mounted two-way radios.
Paired with portable radios it provides range about 30 feet and with the PMMN4097 mobile palm mic/gateway you can roam up to 300 feet from the vehicle. There is “mission critical” for APX and a “operations critical” software version for MOTOTRBO DMR radios.
Motorola’s model nomenclature and product tiering make it easy to purchase the wrong mic for your radio. Depending on the included charger bundle the product SKU changes slightly. Below is a summary of the configurations and their compatible radios.
These models are compatible with APX 8000, APX 7000, APX 7000XE, APX 6000, APX 6000XE, APX 4000, APX 3000, and SRX 2200.
It is important to make sure your radio has Bluetooth enabled. The blue dot means is has the internal hardware only. You also need to have the software option (free since April 2016) and your programmer has it turned ON. Notice this same mic can also be used with the PMMN4097 mobile palm mic/gateway.
This model is compatible with XPR 7350, XPR 7350e, XPR 7550, XPR 7550e, XPR 7580, and XPR 7580e with Bluetooth enabled. It may be turned OFF or disabled to save battery life. It is not compatible with XPR 6000 series or with the long range PMMN4097 mobile palm mic/gateway.
