Last week at FDIC 2018, Motorola Solutions announced color choices for the Minitor VI firefighter paging receiver. The new colors should be available sometime in the third quarter. In addition to the standard color, you will be able to choose a red and high-visibility green case. The UL Minitor VI can be ordered with an optional intrinsically-safe certification for use in hazardous atmospheres.
What’s Your Favorite Minitor VI Color? Take Our Poll
Motorola Solutions and their wholly-owned subsidiary, Vertex Standard informed us a new software ERP upgrade will halt order processing, depot repairs, and shipments beginning April 7th.
Expect shipments to slowly ramp up starting the afternoon of Tuesday, April 18th. The planned upgrade has been in process for the past 2 years.
Shutdown Affects Radios, Parts, Accessories, and Repairs
Anything that has not shipped by the evening of April 6th will be affected. Motorola and Vertex will not be able to process any new orders until 4/18/17. We are taking steps to stock additional inventory but with 3,000+ products it will be difficult.
Batteries, Chargers, and Programming Kit Prices Change 10/12/15
Motorola informed us there will be a significant price increase for Minitor VI accessories next month. Now is a good time to purchase a RLN6527 Minitor VI programming kit. There is a $50 price increase on orders placed after 10/9/15.
With the introduction of the Motorola Solutions Minitor VI fire pager, you now have the choice between a UL certified intrinsically-safe model or one that does not have the certification.
Intrinsically-safe electronic equipment can be used in hazardous atmospheres with dangerous concentrations of flammable gases or dust. Non-intrinsically-safe electronic devices could cause an explosion by creating a spark or excessive heat.
Should I Order an Intrinsically-Safe Minitor VI?
Unless your fire department has a formal intrinsic safety program, you probably should save the $50 and buy the non-intrinsically-safe model. Another way to determine if you need IS is to check your radio for the FM Certification label. If your radio is not IS then your Minitor VI should not need the certification.
New Minitor VI Designed for Firefighters, EMS, and On-Call First Responders
Motorola Solutions released their sixth Minitor fire pager since first introduced back in 1975. The new Minitor VI has a sleeker form factor with programmable buttons, 1 or 5 channel capability, and improved IP56 water resistance. It can also be ordered without Intrinsically-safe operation and alkaline batteries.
All models have 16 minutes of voice storage capability and the standard warranty is now 2 years. The charger has a USB connector so it can be charged from the wall or computer port.
